CFA AWARDS

CFA Awards are special awards given to eminent personalities in various fields of fine arts and literature. This award was instituted to recognize and honour talents from different arenas.

4th December 2005

The festival of December 2005 was dedicated to devotional composers. Rightly so, on the inaugural day, two Vedic scholars were honoured with the CFA Award, comprising a cash prize of Rs. 15000/- each. They were Brahmasri Subbukrishna Somayaji and Oragadam Sri. U.Ve. K. Lakshmi Narasimhan. The awardees were felicitated by Dr. B.M. Sundaram.

CFA presented the CFA award of Rs. 15000/- to Nagasvara Vidwan Aachaalpuram S. Chinnathambi who belongs to the family of traditional and hereditary Nagasvara artistes. He was specially trained in Mallaris, Raktis and rigid traditional repertoires of the temples at Chidambaram.

LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS

5th August 2012

Dr B.M. Sundaram, the first disciple of Dr Balamurali was honoured with the Lifetime achievement award on the inaugural day of the Balamurali Music Festival. Dr BMS is a musicologist of repute and has made immense contributions in bringing out the two hand-written works of Dr Balamurali’s compositions namely Suryakanthi and Saraswati. The award to him comprised of Rs. 25,000/- (Rupees Twenty five thousand only) cash and a citation.

A Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Prof. Parur M.S. Anantaraman, the senior violinist and torch bearer of the Parur tradition. This award was presented on the day which CFA celebrated the Bi-centenary year of Vaggeyakara Maharaja Svati Tirunal. Shri. K.N. Ramaswamy, Director of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Chennai Kendra presented the award. Shri. Trichur Ramachandran, Dr B.M. Sundram and Shri. ‘Chitravina’ Ravikiran felicitated the awardee.

Tavil vidwan Tanjavur T.R. Govindarajan was presented a Lifetime achievement award comprising a medal, citation and cash of Rupees Twenty Five Thousands, commemorating the birth centenary of Ramanathapuram C S Murugaboopathy, a stalwart Mrdangist of yesteryears.

March 2015

Chennai Fine Arts honoured vidushi Smt. Parassala Ponnammal with the Lifetime Achievement Award on Monday, 23rd March 2015 at Trivandrum. Prince Aswathi Tirunal Rama Varma presided over the function and presented the award.

January 2016

This year, Mrdanga Vidwan Umayalpuram Dr. K. Sivaraman was presented the award on 19th January 2016 by Dr. Nalli Kuppusamy Chetty.

CENTENARIAN AWARD

20th December 2003

Legendary musicians Madras A Kannan, D K Pattammal, Semmangudi Srinivasa Iyer, Subbudu and Dr M Balamuralikrishna were honoured during the inaugural year with the Narayana Iyengar Centenary Award.

During December 2012, CFA celebrated the Birth Centenaries of eight great musicians of yesteryears namely Alathur Srinivasa Iyer, Mayavaram Govindaraja Pillai, Alangudi Ramachandran, Palghat Mani Iyer, T K Rangachari, Madurai Mani Iyer, T Brinda and Mannargudi Sambasiva Bhagavatar. During this rare occasion, two disciples of the centenarians namely Sikkil R Bhaskaran (Disciple of Mayavaram Govindaraja Pillai) and Tirupoonturuthi Venkatesan (Disciple of Alathur Srinivasa Iyer) were honored with Birth Centenary awards named after their gurus respectively. The awards carried a citation and Rs. 5000/- cash.

GOTUVADYAM NARAYANA IYENGAR AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE

During the year 2010, the maiden Gotuvadyam Narayana Iyengar Award for Excellence was presented to Violin Maestro Sri. V.S. Narasimhan, who is none other than the son of Late Gotuvadyam Sri.Srinivasa Iyengar, on Sunday, the 5th of December 2010.

Shri. S.S. Jawahar IAS, Commissioner of Museums, Art & Culture, Govt. of Tamil Nadu presented the award and Mrudangam Maestro Prof. Trichy Sankaran rendered felicitation.

Dr N Ramani was presented the GNI Award for Excellence carrying Rupees One Lakh cash, a medal and citation and Prof S R Janakiraman was presented the Musicologist Award and conferred the title 'Sangita Saastrabhignya' carrying Rupees Twenty Five Thousands cash, a medal and citation.

BALAMURALI PAVITRA PATRAM

This award was instituted in the year 2012 to encourage valuable contributions to music and also to support continuing music education.

The maiden award was given as a scholarship to Kumari. S.G. Vijayasri and Master T.R. Aravind Kaushik on the occasion of the Valedictory function of the December Music Festival, 2011.

During the year 2012, the Balamurali Pavitra Patram was presented to Dr Saraswati and Shri. Rama Varma, Prince of Tiruvananthapuram. Dr Saraswati was documenting hundreds of compositions of Saint Tyagaraja, sung by Dr Balamuralikrishna who is the fourth generation disciple of the composer. She is instrumental in bringing out a number of recordings of Dr Balamurali, not only of Tyagaraja’s compositions but also the songs composed by the master himself. Her trust Vipanchee has also published books in various languages with notations to Dr Balamurali’s compositions. The other awardee, Prince Rama Varma, is one of the prime disciples of Dr Balamuralikrishna. Rama Varma is actively popularizing the compositions of his guru by means of singing exclusive concerts, presenting lecture demonstrations, teaching many students, organizing concerts, uploading various renderings of the master in internet and so on. Hence he was also presented the Balamurali Pavitra Patram in recognition of his outstanding contributions.
