GNI Awards

  • Chennai Fine Arts was founded in the year 2003 with the Centenary celebration of Gotuvadyam Narayana Iyengar. Later in the year 2010, an award was instituted in his name. this award is presented to senior top-ranking musicians who have made outstanding contributions to classical carnatic music.
  • Five legendary musicians were honored at the inaugural year with the Narayana Iyengar Centenary Award. During the year 2010, the maiden Gotuvadyam Narayana Iyengar Award for Excellence carrying a purse of Rs.25,000/- and a citation, was presented to Violin Maestro Sri. V.S. Narasimhan, who is none other than the son of Late Gotuvadyam Sri.Srinivasa Iyengar, on Sunday, the 5th of December 2010.
  • During 2011 the award was presented to Vidvan Shri. R.K. Srikantan, who is one of the senior most vocalists of the present generation. The event took place on Wednesday, the 21st of December 2011, on the valedictory day of the Music Festival. Shri. S.S. Jawahar IAS, Commissioner of Museums, Art & Culture, Govt. of Tamil Nadu presented the award and Mrudangam Maestro Prof. Trichy Sankaran rendered felicitation.
